Cash Machines to Provide Internet Access

Under a mutual agreement signed by BT and ATM provider Cashbox, some of the latter’s pay-and-use cash machines across the UK will be transformed into Openzone hotspots where users can have instant access to quick internet.

People can so far withdraw cash in lieu of a certain payment from any of the 2,500 automated cash machines across the UK owned by Cashbox. Their machines compensate for the absence of bank ATMs in some areas across the nation. Now people will not only enjoy the facility of electronic cash withdrawals but also get internet access around these ATMs. Why is providing access to the mobile broadband such a big deal?.. take a look at this dedicated mobile broadband website to answer any of your questions and allay any fears you may have about using the mobile internet.

Ten Cashbox ATMs are already waiting to be transformed into WiFi hotspots. More ATMs will be converted in the near future if this business strategy works. The upgrade process will begin with the Tiger Tiger nightclubs in London, Glasgow, and Manchester.

Cashbox CEO Ciaran Morton said that some Cashbox ATMs are placed at strategic locations where possibility of people availing internet access is greater. He added that BT will give Cashbox a sizeable portion of its revenue from this service. The amount BT will give will depend on minutes used per site.

Along with BT broadband customers, people who avail the services of O2 iPhone, Boingo etc. can also visit Openzone hotspots to get internet access.
